Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at michelecooneypsyc@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

At Michele Cooney Psychology, we offer individual and dyadic (parent and child) therapy for babies, toddlers, school aged children and adolescents. We can also offer therapy to adults if in relation to parenting or parenting-related stress.

Therapy sessions at Michele Cooney Psychology typically last for 50 minutes, but the duration may vary depending on the type of therapy and the needs of the client.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to join therapy sessions where appropriate. For children aged 7 and under parent/caregiver attendance is almost always encouraged. For older children and adolescents, the decision regarding parental/caregiver presence is generally made by the young person and may evolve over time.

Of course! We encourage parent sessions to support therapy goals and provide education regarding the best way to support and respond to your child. Under a mental health care plan, 2 out of the 10 sessions for the calendar year are able to be used for parent/caregiver sessions. Under NDIS funding, parent and caregiver sessions can occur as needed. Privately funded parent sessions can occur as requested.

Yes. Whilst face to face sessions are preferred, telehealth and phone sessions can be used during times of illness, for parent/caregiver sessions, or if transport is unavailable. Michele generally uses Microsoft Teams for telehealth sessions.

No. Michele is not conducting these assessments at this time. Dr Donna Hosford, also located at the Alliance Clinic can provide these services. Please contact her to enquire about these services. Michele recommends contacting a Paediatrician or ADHD-trained GP for ADHD assessment and medical management.

Michele is able to provide therapeutic intervention to help children, adolescents and families pre and post diagnosis.
